Staff Report

Friday, January 15th, 2021

Central Atlanta Progress (CAP) and the Atlanta Downtown Improvement District (ADID) will host their 2021 Annual Meeting & Awards Tribute virtually. The hour-long special, called Good Morning Downtown, will feature informative and entertaining segments by CAP/ADID leadership, staff and some very special guests.

A highlight of every CAP/ADID Annual Meeting event for more than two decades now is an awards program that pays tribute to leaders and institutions that have had an indelible impact on Downtown Atlanta. The recipients of this year’s awards are:

  • Dan & Tally Sweat Award: Alicia Philipp

  • Marcus Downtown Economic Impact Award: Tony Ressler, the Atlanta Hawks and State Farm Arena

  • WarnerMedia Community Leadership Award: Downtown Atlanta Healthcare Workers

A mentee of Dan and Tally Sweat, Alicia Philipp recently retired after serving as President & CEO of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta for over 40 years. During her tenure, she led a team of experts that strengthened the 23-county Atlanta region by inspiring philanthropy and by providing quality donor services and bold, innovative community leadership.

State Farm Arena and the Atlanta Hawks, led by Atlanta Hawks Basketball Club Principal Owner and Chair Tony Ressler, are being recognized for the organization’s remarkable impact on the Downtown Atlanta economy, in addition to the significant role State Farm Arena played in recent Fulton County elections.

The nominating committee of the CAP Board of Directors, in partnership with WarnerMedia, has decided to utilize the WarnerMedia Community Leadership Award to pay tribute to Downtown Atlanta’s healthcare workers for their incredible bravery and commitment to the community during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Annual Meeting & Awards Tribute is free and open to the public. To learn more and register, visit AtlantaDowntown.com.
