Angela Spivey, an accomplished McGuireWoods food and beverage lawyer, has been appointed the firm's new office managing partner in charge of its Atlantaoffice.

Spivey assumes her new duties on Aug. 1, succeeding Hilary P. Jordan, who has headed the firm's Atlanta office since 2012.

"I am honored the firm entrusted me with this leadership role, but I also know the great responsibility that goes with it," Spivey said. "Hil Jordanleaves big shoes for any lawyer to fill, but I am ready for the challenge and eager to give it my best."

McGuireWoods Managing Partner Tom Cabaniss, in announcing the leadership transition, said that having a deep pool of talented lawyers ready, willing and able to assume key leadership roles within the firm has been integral to McGuireWoods' growth.

"The firm's ongoing success is, in no small part, attributable to outstanding lawyers such as those who have done such a fine job and those prepared to build on their many accomplishments," he said. "We are deeply grateful to Hil for his excellent leadership as Atlanta's office managing partner. We also thank Angela and know she will do an outstanding job."

Spivey's varied practice focuses on high exposure class action claims. She co-authored the book on food safety litigation, Food Safety Law, published by American Lawyer Media, now in its 7th edition, and is recognized throughout the industry as a "go to" attorney.  She defends manufacturers, packers, suppliers and distributors of food products on a wide range of issues including recalls, civil litigation resulting from widespread outbreaks, consumer class action labeling cases, Department of Justice criminal investigations and regulatory oversight and compliance. Spivey is the deputy head of McGuireWoods' Food & Beverage team, which Chambers USA listed as a nationally "recognized practice" in the category of Food & Beverages: Regulatory and Litigation for 2015.  Spivey also regularly defends energy companies and product manufacturers against various class action claims and has an impressive track record of defeating class certification.
