Batson-Cook Construction is pleased to announce that its Ground Floor Surgery Renovation and Addition project at Northside Hospital Atlanta has won a 2015 “Best Project” Award from Engineering News Record Southeast.

The $4.3-million project called for the renovation of an existing 16,000-square-foot surgery area along with a 585-square-foot addition to the surgery waiting area.  The work was completed in 18 phases, many of which were performed concurrently during the 20-week construction schedule.  The project, which underwent changes in scope during construction, was nevertheless delivered on time and under budget in December 2014.

“Unique challenges and unforeseen conditions are expected during the renovation of a 30-year-old facility such as this hospital,” noted David Glasscock, project manager for Batson-Cook. “This project demanded constant communication and extensive planning between the construction team and hospital staff to ensure that Northside’s surgical schedules could continue without significant disruption.”

Batson-Cook constructed two new operating rooms – one hybrid OR and one standard OR – and expanded existing OR suites. Seven new bays were added to the pre-operative unit, four new bays were added to the post-anesthesia care unit, and both units were fully renovated.  The OR satellite pharmacy was also expanded and renovated.

The project enables NSH to maintain its status as a leader in surgical services and continue to perform more surgeries annually than any other Georgia hospital, according to an NSH spokesperson.
