Drone Industry Welcomes DOT's Plan to Require Users to Register Recreational Unmanned Aircraft

Drones are such a booming business — and such a potential hazard to aviation— that the Department of Transportation plans to require operators to register them with the government.
The agency will appoint a task force, including representatives from the unmanned aircraft systems industry, to make recommendations by Nov. 20 on how to create a user-friendly system for drone registration and identify what kind of drones, such as toys, should be exempt from this requirement.
