Kia Issues Recall on Georgia-Made 2011-13 Sorentos

Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Friday, October 16th, 2015

Kia Motors America issued a recall on 377,062 of its 2011-13 Kia Sorento models, which are made in West Point, Ga., because of a defect that could let the vehicle sift out of park without the brakes being depressed.

Without requiring the brake to be pressed, the vehicle may be unintentionally shifted out of Park, allowing it to roll, which may result in a crash, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported.

Kia will notify owners, and dealers will replace for free the brake-shift interlock mechanism.

The recall is expected to begin Nov. 24, 2015. Owners can contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542.

Earlier this year, the Kia Sedona - another model made by Kia Motors Manufacturingof Georgia – was named by Consumer Reports magazine as one of the four worst cars of 2015.
