Mayor Kasim Reed joined Jamestown Properties Chief Executive Officer Matt Bronfman and President Michael Phillips on Saturday for the lighting of the iconic Ponce City Market sign. The lighting was part of a celebration which highlighted the five years of rehabilitation and progress at Ponce City Market.
“With an historic investment from Jamestown Properties, Ponce City Market has become a destination of choice for residents and visitors and is quickly becoming the heart of the resurging Ponce de Leon corridor,” said Mayor Reed. “I look forward to the future openings of more retail shops, world-class restaurants, and office spaces, with established businesses as well as start-ups, that will offer a new landscape for business expansion in our city.”
In 2011, the City of Atlanta sold the former City Hall East to Jamestown Properties for $27 million. Jamestown Properties invested $180 million into the two million square-foot building, transforming the property into a mixed-used development with national and local retail anchors, restaurants, offices, and residential units.
"Ponce City Market is the result of five years of active collaboration with the City of Atlanta and typifies Jamestown's commitment and approach to creating community. It was an honor to have Mayor Kasim Reed and Councilman Kwanza Hall join us for this historic moment," said Jamestown's CEO, Matt M. Bronfman.
In July, Jamestown Properties approved the start of construction of the North Avenue Plaza, a project resulting from a partnership between Jamestown and the Atlanta BeltLine. The Plaza, partially funded by a Federal Transportation, Community, and System Preservation grant, will function as a public space immediately adjacent to the Ponce City Market development, giving users of the Eastside Trail a place to step off the trail and gather.
