RePEc/IDEAS, the world’s largest economics bibliographic database, consistently ranks the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies among the top two-to-three percent of economics institutions worldwide – and first in Georgia – for its faculty research productivity.

The Andrew Young School ranked sixth internationally – fourth domestically – among the world’s top public policy schools for economic research productivity in December 2016, the latest ranking posted.

“Our faculty are outstanding, both in terms of the high quality scholarly and related research they do, but also in terms of the critically important policy issues their research addresses,” said dean and economist Mary Beth Walker. “From our new hires to our senior scholars, our faculty and research associates at every level contribute to the success of our departments, research centers and school.”

The school’s Department of Economics held a No. 73 position in December. Month-to-month, as the rankings are updated, the Andrew Young School of Policy Studies sits among the world’s top one percent of the world’s 7,310 economic institutions for the volume of downloads and citations its research generates.

The Andrew Young School ranked highly among all global institutions in several fields:

• Experimental: No. 11 (Top 1% in field)

• Public Finance: No. 24 (Top 1.5% in field)

• Education: No. 24 (Top 1.1% in field)

• Urban/Regional: No. 47 (Top 1.5% in field)

• Labor: No. 53 (Top 1.8% in field)

• Environmental: No. 57 (Top 2.5% in field)

Critical to these rankings are the research contributions of faculty and research associates affiliated with the school’s academic units and research centers, notably the Experimental Economics Center and International Center for Public Policy, which rank independently of the school in their fields.

Individual faculty from these centers and units also consistently rank highly. For example, Associate Professor Charles Courtemanche (No. 162) is ranked among the Top Young Economists. Andrew Young School faculty Jorge Martinez-Vazquez, Alberto Chong, James C. Cox, Barry Hirsch, Susan Laury and Paula Stephan rank among the top five percent of authors worldwide.
