Boys & Girls Clubs of America Launches #BGCmade Contest for Club Alumni
Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO
Thursday, July 13th, 2017
Boys & Girls Clubs of America invites Club alumni to share their success stories while earning cash to give back to the Club where it all began. From July 10 – 31, current and former Club kids, volunteers and employees can submit videos to participate in the #BGCmade contest for the chance to win $10,000 for their neighborhood Boys & Girls Club.
"My Boys & Girls Club in San Pedro, California was the first real home environment I had ever experienced, but I never imagined that I would find exactly what I wanted to do in my life at that Club," said Misty Copeland, principal dancer of the American Ballet Theater and Boys & Girls Club alumnus. "At 13 years old, I took my first ballet class on the basketball court of my Boys & Girls Club in my gym clothes. Although my training has moved beyond the basketball court and the Club, I will never forget the tools I was given by the incredible team and family that worked day in and day out to bring millions of kids the nurturing they need and deserve in order to succeed in life."
Thanks to national presenter Dr Pepper Snapple Group, Boys & Girls Clubs of America is creating a global network of passionate Club alumni who can support and provide mentorship to current Club members and other alumni. By reconnecting with the Boys & Girls Club community through Alumni & Friends, former Club kids and supporters can also be powerful advocates for Clubs and the kids and communities they serve.
To enter the contest, Club alumni can visit BGCA.org/BGCmade and simply upload a short video describing how their Club experience enabled them to develop a skill, talent or a personal motto that helped shape their future. The contest is open to former Club kids, volunteers and employees.
