Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO
Wednesday, October 11th, 2017
Independent researcher, Michael A. Ports, will present a program The Second Creek War, 1836-1837: Records and Sources at the Georgia Archives’ Lunch and Learn on Friday, October 13 from noon until 1:00 p.m.
Mr. Ports will first address the conflict itself, highlighting the historical background, the actual campaigns, and their aftermath. He will then shift focus to the federal, state, local, and other sources and records concerning the war. In conclusion, Mr. Ports will suggest a research methodology for learning more about your ancestors who fought in the war or were affected by it.
Mr. Ports is a practicing civil engineer with more than 47 years of professional experience. His interest in his family history began at a young age listening to old family stories. In graduate school, he began researching his own genealogy. He has published more than 90 articles in genealogical magazines, journals and bulletins, and self-published five genealogies on the web. Mr. Ports has also published 40 books with the Genealogical Publishing Company, most of which are transcriptions of various Georgia county records.
The program requires no registration, and is free and open to the public.
