Fourteen professional license types are now open for renewal through Secretary of State Brian Kemp’s Office. There are approximately 92,700 license holders affected by this renewal period. Kemp encourages licensees to take advantage of the agency’s new online renewal portals to cut down on paperwork and wait times.

“Currently, the average processing time for renewal applications is only one to two days for the current professions in renewal—an all-time low at the Professional Licensing Boards Division,” stated Secretary of State Brian Kemp. “We have streamlined our operations and eliminated cumbersome red tape across every platform by focusing on getting Georgians to work faster. For most licenses now, it only takes a few minutes to electronically submit the required paperwork and obtain instant verification of licensure.”

To renew your professional license, visit the Professional Licensing Board’s website by the expiration date to complete the online renewal process. Consult the office’s step-by-step instructions for assistance during online renewal. Once you have submitted payment information and verified renewal, you can print your payment receipt and professional license. Please submit continuing education documents if you have been selected for an audit. 

Conditioned air contractors must renew their licenses by November 30, 2018.

Optometrists, foresters, geologists, hearing aid dealers, hearing aid dispensers, physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, nursing home administrators, nursing home preceptors, nursing home training sites, and used motor vehicle parts dealers must renew their licenses by December 31, 2018.

Registered nurses and advanced practice registered nurses are also up for renewal if their current licenses show an expiration date of January 31, 2018.

Online renewal is not available for nursing home preceptors and training sites. The Professional Licensing Boards Division has mailed out paper applications to these two groups of licensees to complete the renewal process.

If a license holder fails to renew their license before the appropriate deadline, a late fee will be imposed to bring the expired license into compliance. Georgia law prohibits professional license holders from conducting unlicensed practice, which includes practicing with an expired license. Your license will lapse if you fail to renew it by the end of the established late renewal period. If your license lapses, you must apply for reinstatement and meet all application requirements.  Reinstatement of any license is at the discretion of the board.
