Close to 300 sponsors, partners, supporters and guests attended Sheltering Arms’ annual fundraising event on Saturday, September 30, 2017, to raise money for need-based scholarships, literacy materials for the agency’s 2,400 enrolled children and teacher training.
Celebration Dinner, an affair that included Porsche riding experiences, a seated dinner and live and silent auctions, brought together metro Atlanta’s business, education and civic leaders to celebrate the power and promise of quality early childhood education.
During the event, Sheltering Arms presented its second annual Early Childhood Champion Award to Comer Yates, Executive Director, Atlanta Speech School. The agency recognizes a local leader for their dedication and work to support young children in the community, particularly in area of early education. The recipient of the inaugural award was Sarah-Elizabeth Reed, First Lady of the City of Atlanta.
“When children attend a high-quality learning program in the earliest years of life, they’re more likely to succeed in school, graduate high school and college, and ultimately, earn higher incomes as adults,” said Blythe Keeler Robinson, president and CEO, Sheltering Arms. “Our goal is to make high-quality early education affordable to the children in our communities. Thanks to the generous support of our partners and friends, we will be able to continue doing so.”
