Monday, December 11th, 2017

The Atlanta Housing Authority and The Michaels Organization will hold a hard hat celebration at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, at Piedmont Road High-rise to publicly mark the beginning of the renovation and modernization of the existing AHA-owned property. Piedmont is one of 11 AHA-owned properties that serve members of Atlanta's low-income senior and disabled population. The Piedmont Road High-rise, located in the heart of Buckhead, has 207 units.

"Preserving affordable housing for all Atlanta residents who need it is a priority to us at AHA," said Catherine Buell, president and CEO of the Atlanta Housing Authority. "The renovations at the Piedmont Road High-rise are part of our strategic plan, which focuses on offering quality affordable housing to our senior and disabled residents, as well as focusing on initiatives that allow them to age in place."

Milton Pratt, senior vice president of The Michaels Development Company, said, "It is a privilege to partner with such a forward-thinking housing authority that shares our vision of high quality, sustainable affordable housing, and we look forward to serving the residents of this city for many years to come. This collaborative project is proof that when we pool our talents, Atlanta reaps the benefit."

During renovations, the residents will be relocated to vacant furnished apartments within the property while their units are receiving the upgrades.  Renovations are expected to be completed by December 2018.
