Tis the season of giving, so give a scarf and get a scarf at Atlanta United’s 4th Annual Boxing Day Scarf Exchange. The club has teamed up with our pub partners for the now annual Atlanta United holiday tradition. Join us for English Premier League soccer games, giveaways at halftime, and more! All attendees are encouraged to bring a gently-used scarf and in return you will receive a 2017 Atlanta United Boxing Day Scarf. All scarves exchanged will be donated to Covenant House Georgia.

What is Boxing Day?

Most commonly celebrated at its origins in the U.K., Boxing Day is a religious holiday recognized the day after Christmas (December 26th). A day which started out as a European tradition of donating money and “boxes” of clothing, materials, etc. to the less fortunate has now been renowned for the myriad of soccer matches played throughout the day.

Now a truly popular and accepted date during the Premier League season in the U.K., Boxing Day normally features 10 games, which involves all 20 teams in the league competing on the same day, a very rare occasion (*this year only 8 games). In addition, the three lower tiers of soccer in the U.K. after the Premier League compile nearly all their games on the 26th tallying 34 more games to the mayhem.

For a comparison in the U.S., think of the tradition of watching American football on Thanksgiving with the whole family, now multiply the number of games and add in the insane soccer fanatic culture in the U.K., and you have Boxing Day

So get ready, bring your scarves, watch Premier League matches and hang out with Atlanta United staff and supporters to celebrate the beautiful game.
