As of the first week in November, teachers and staff at Atlanta special needs-school, Cumberland Academy of Georgia, received a technology upgrade. Cumberland is a school for special needs students who have Aspergers, ADD, ADHD and other learning challenges. With these special learners there is a need for special technology to assist classroom education. This fall, 30 laptops were donated by Sentry Insurance for the purpose of supporting Cumberland.

While the laptops will be directly used by Cumberland’s teachers and administrators, helping them to do their jobs, Scarborough says ultimately the students will be the primary beneficiaries. “Teachers use computers for everything from creating PowerPoint presentations, accessing online academic curriculum, showing online videos to their classes, and accessing the internet for information and educational materials to supplement their lessons,” she explains. “This will certainly enrich the classroom learning experiences for students.”

Cumberland has a long standing relationship with Sentry Insurance as the company has supported the school many times previously.

“Sentry has been a long time supporter of Cumberland,” Scarborough says. “We very much appreciate Sentry’s support, and not only consider them our good friends, but also a partner in our educational goals.”
