On Friday, December 22, 2017 the newly widened portion of State Route 400 (SR 400) southbound will open between State Route 141 and McFarland Parkway.

This four miles of widening began in May 2017. Construction will continue widening SR 400 from State Route 369/ Browns Bridge Road to State Route 141/ Peachtree Parkway, weather permitting that section will open to traffic in late Spring 2018.

The widening and reconstruction of State Route 400 was awarded to C.W. Matthews Contracting Co., Inc. in April 2015. The project completion is scheduled for fall of 2018 and is currently on schedule.

The project adds an additional lane in each direction on State Route 400 from McFarland Road to State Route 369. Bridges over Big Creek and the Sawnee Creek portion of Lake Lanier will be widened.

The project is being made possible through a partnership between Forsyth County and the Georgia Department of Transportation. GDOT has contributed $13 million to this work and is managing the project. The remainder of the project funding – approximately $34.5 million – comes from the Forsyth County Transportation Bond. Approved by 63 percent of Forsyth County voters in November 2014.
