During a recent State Arbor Day celebration, the city was honored for the third year in a row at Trees Atlanta for being one of the state’s “Tree City USA” communities.

Peachtree Corners (incorporated July 1, 2012) was among 34 cities in Georgia recognized on February 15 for its commitment to caring for and managing its public trees. Residents Lorrie Backer and Hilary Wilson represented the city during the event.

“It is, indeed, an honor that Peachtree Corners has been recognized for a third consecutive year,” said Mayor Mike Mason. “Our citizens who make up the city’s Green Committee are to be commended for their efforts.”

Tree City USA provides the framework for community forestry management for cities and towns across America that meet certain requirements including:

• Establishing a tree board or department

• Establishing a community tree ordinance

• Meeting specific spending levels for urban forestry

• Planning an Arbor Day Celebration 

 "Trees connect all of us,” said Georgia Forestry Commission Director Chuck Williams. “Trees clean our air, filter our water, spur economic growth and provide countless opportunities to enjoy recreation, contributing to a better quality of life. Citizens in Tree Cities USA can be proud of their community leaders’ commitment to trees and forested land – on Arbor Day and every other day of the year,” William said.
