Synapse’s launches a unique program with privacy and anonymity being of equal concern to providing the most up-to-date treatments available to address addiction, most often associated with drug and alcohol abuse, as a brain disease.  Being among the first Intensive Outpatient Program or IOP of its kind nationally, Synapse is setting a new bar for 21st century addiction treatment. “Acquiring a fit and healthy brain is perhaps the new Holy Grail for recovery.  Outcome results for success at Synapse are two to three times that of traditional programs.” According to Synapse founder Dr. Janet Cox.

Synapse recognizes the cost of addiction runs high for both the individual and the organization.  On a personal level, the individual becomes further and further separated from their true self and from all other relationships as well.  On a professional level, they are incapable of living up to their full potential because of their self-defeating behaviors. In this case, the organization has an employee that has diminished productivity which can equate into lost revenue that can impact the bottom line.

The Professional & Executive Rehab Program at Synapse is where neuroscience and discretion meet.  Founded in 2015, Synapse applies a patented set of evidence-based and evidence-informed treatment modalities to address substance use and co-occurring disorders by improving brain health and fitness. The clinic is nestled within a discreet, Buckhead office park with a Zen like environment that is well-appointed and relaxing.  Synapse provides a high level of privacy that protects our clients’ reputations.  The program was designed for those looking for anonymity and convenience.

According to Dr. Cox, “addiction does not discriminate, striking people from all walks of life across the socioeconomic spectrum. Alcoholics and drug addicts can be found from homeless shelters to executive boardrooms.  Demanding careers, family conflicts and the need to uphold a professional identity at any cost can be mentally, emotionally and physically exhausting.”

The Professional & Executive Rehab Program was designed to enable high-powered professionals and executives to keep up with their active work and family lives while being treated for addictions to drugs, alcohol, or certain behaviors.  The individual has the freedom to keep working and travel if needed.  As a result, work responsibilities and relationships can be maintained while attending the Intensive Outpatient Program.  “Allowing our clients to maintain their career activity during treatment mitigates the possibility of professional set-backs and subsequent relapse,” she continued.

The program offers Synapse’s Brain Health Model of Care, which is based on two decades of neuroscientific research and the principle of neuroplasticity.  Several treatment modalities are applied utilizing technology such as neurofeedback therapy, biofeedback training and cognitive rehabilitation.  The patented Neurobehavioral Facilitation approach to self-regulation and goal-directed behavior can be applied to a wide variety of emotional and behavioral difficulties.

Through a trauma informed lens, Synapse’s holistic approach to mind, body and spirit helps address the root causes of the addiction.  Individual, group and family therapy along with yoga instruction and mindfulness training are a part of the program.  There is also consultation with a nutritionist and a personal trainer.  Group modules are held for skill development in areas such as emotion-regulation, goal-setting, decision-making, communication, organizing, planning, stress-management, coping and finding balance. Each client has an individualized treatment plan that is comprehensive and based on psychiatric, psychological and cognitive assessments upon admission with reassessment at scheduled intervals throughout the program to measure progress. This attention to detail goes beyond a personal level into that which is professional. Each client leaves with an aftercare plan to lead a sober, healthy and functional lifestyle.
