Piedmont Healthcare’s original documentary series “Every Given Day” won two EMMY Awards on Saturday from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Southeast Chapter. Piedmont’s Marketing Department was honored for Outstanding Documentary for the episode “Martha’s Race” and video editor and assistant producer Andrew Spratt took home the Outstanding Editor award, marking Piedmont’s fourth EMMY® win since 2014.

The series, the first episode of which aired on WSB-TV and is hosted on the station’s website, goes behind the scenes with Piedmont patients and physicians as they tackle some of life’s challenges. “Martha’s Race” is the powerful and uplifting story of a woman's quest to ride her bike across the United States in less than 12 days. Martha Hall suffers from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which affects her heart.

In addition to “Martha’s Race,” “Every Given Day” also earned nominations in the documentary category for:

·         “Just The 3 of Us – And Baby Makes 4”

·         “Like And Share – How One Liver Saved Two Lives”

The series’ crew is comprised of director/producer Rashel Stephenson, Spratt, and contractors Tom Pritchard, Brian Slusher and Kristian Melom.

“Piedmont is lucky to have talented storytellers like Rashel, Andrew and the content team here to highlight the journeys of our remarkable patients and clinicians,” said Matt Gove, Piedmont’s Chief Consumer Officer. “Four EMMYs in four years is incredible for any nonbroadcast organization and I believe we’re the first health system to accomplish this. It’s a unique way to highlight Piedmont's purpose and make a positive difference in every life we touch.”

With more than 1,200 entries from a five-state region, the 2018 ceremony marked the most entered EMMY Awards season in the organization’s history. Entrants from television stations and digital media organizations across Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi, South Carolina and Asheville, N.C., were eligible to submit their work for consideration. Nominees were named in 86 categories.
