Cobb EMC announced that Brett Stovern will join the company as Chief Financial Officer on July 23, replacing Bob Schoonover who is retiring after 19 years with the Marietta, Ga.-based electric cooperative.

“Brett’s experience in finance, operations and strategic planning make him a strong addition to our team,” said Peter Heintzelman, President and CEO of Cobb EMC. “His proven track record in leadership will further our commitment to continual improvement and will be an asset to both our employees and consumers. We’d also like to thank Bob Schoonover for his many contributions and for ensuring a seamless transition for Brett. We wish him all the best in retirement.”

Stovern brings more than three decades of financial expertise to the electric cooperative, most recently serving as CFO for Southern Star Central Gas Pipeline, a natural gas transmission system. He has also served in a wide range of executive and leadership positions for Columbia Pipeline Group, AGL Resources and Pratt Industries. He began his career at Arthur Andersen.

“I’m honored and excited to join a dynamic company that is in a strong financial position and continually focused on innovating for the good of its consumers,” said Stovern.

Stovern will report directly to Heintzelman and will oversee all aspects of accounting, finance and enterprise resource planning for one of the largest electric cooperatives in the nation, as well as serve as a valued resource for Gas South, a leading provider of natural gas in the Southeast and a wholly-owned subsidiary of Cobb EMC.
