On September 4, a 6-0 vote by the City of Doraville approved ordinances allowing a portion of the Assembly District to observe an open-container policy at the 165-acre mixed-use development. The Doraville City Council also approved code amendments allowing more opportunities to bring breweries and distilleries for both on- and off-premise consumption. With this approval, Assembly is now equipped to secure additional tenants for the site, creating the diverse culture and interactive experiences desired.

“As our region continues to expand at such a rapid pace, we must remain on the forefront of changes in zoning trends. The City of Doraville recognized a need for updated amendments to attract commerce, visitors and jobs to Assembly, and we are proud to continue working with a future-focused entity,” said Matt Samuelson, COO of the Commercial Real Estate Division at The Integral Group. “This is not just about creating an inviting environment for residents, visitors and employees at Assembly, it’s also about creating an atmosphere for a vibrant set of businesses to thrive.”

The new open-container ordinance will allow guests of the Assembly District to have up to two 16-ounce drinks at a time per licensed establishment within the district during hours of operation. The ordinance also states that 50 percent of an establishment’s annual gross income must come from prepared foods.

“These changes to the zoning ordinances of our city will assist Doraville in becoming an even more attractive place to do business,” said Doraville Mayor Donna Pittman. “The Integral Group is a great partner, and I want to acknowledge their team and my staff for all that they are doing to bring world-class development to Doraville.”

Upon completion, the multi-phased development will encompass 10 million square feet of multifamily housing, creative office space, chef-driven dining, best-in-class retail, and entertainment, including the purpose-built film studio Third Rail Studios which was completed in the first phase. The new 250,000-square-foot Serta Simmons Bedding headquarters will celebrate its topping out this week and delivers in February 2019, plus, an additional 1.3 million square feet of space is anticipated to deliver in the next 20 months.
