Technical College System of Georgia Commissioner Matt Arthur has appointed a new president to Georgia Piedmont Technical College. Dr. Tavarez Holston, vice president of academic affairs for Lanier Technical College, has been named president of Georgia Piedmont Technical College.

Dr. Holston brings more than 18 years of experience in higher education to Georgia Piedmont Technical College. He has been a technical instructor, director of instruction, director of online instruction, and vice president for institutional effectiveness at Moultrie Technical College (now Southern Regional Technical College), as well as vice president for adult education and vice president for academic affairs at Lanier Technical College since 2013.

“His experience in and passion for technical education, his commitment to students, and his vision to expand educational and economic opportunity in the community are exactly the qualities we were looking for in Georgia Piedmont Technical College’s next president,” said Commissioner Arthur.

Dr. Holston received a Bachelor of Business Administration from North Georgia College and State University, a Master of Science in Management from Troy University, and a Doctor of Education from Valdosta State University.

“It is truly an honor to serve the students of Georgia Piedmont Technical College and its surrounding communities,” said Dr. Holston. “I know that this college has a bright future ahead and we will ensure that every student who comes through our doors is provided with a world-class education where they can learn the skills for success in a career. In addition, this college has an obligation to meet the needs of business and industry in the community; something we will work every day to provide.”

Georgia Piedmont Technical College’s interim president, Dr. D. Glen Cannon, will return to Gwinnett Technical College to resume his role as president. The State Board of the Technical College System of Georgia approved Commissioner Arthur’s appointment of Dr. Holston at their monthly board meeting on Thursday, September 6th.

Dr. Holston will begin as Georgia Piedmont Technical College’s president on September 10, 2018.
