Renaissance Atlanta Midtown Hotel Announces Completion of Major Renovation

Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Wednesday, December 12th, 2018

Renaissance Atlanta Midtown Hotel announces today the completion of major renovations to its lobby, meeting rooms, fitness center and guest rooms. Inspired by Atlanta’s long history of rejecting traditional Southern norms and embracing all that is edgy and non-traditional, the revamped spaces are sophisticated and unique, paying homage to Midtown Atlanta’s thriving tech boom and vibrant art scene.

“This renovation has done more than just change the hotel’s appearance,” said general manager Martin van der Laan. “The changes have injected new life and new energy into every inch of the property. Guests can now truly enjoy an atmosphere that represents the vibrant energy that is inherent in Atlanta and our Midtown neighborhood.”

Inspired by the eclectic energy and urban sensibility of Midtown Atlanta, award-winning firm Studio 11 Design created and executed a one-of-a-kind concept fusing art with cutting-edge technology. The design team coupled unexpected throwback art pieces with surprising tech elements to create a sophisticated, edgy and bold aesthetic. The use of concrete materials and neutral colors, a nod to the neighborhood’s industrial past, is juxtaposed by elements of whimsy: repurposed cassette tapes and floppy disks in bold colors.

Fulfilling the need for an enlivened arrival experience and social gathering space, the new lobby creates a seamless transition between the check-in area and the hotel’s restaurant. The open space is now inclusive of Community Smith restaurant, creating an all-encompassing space for visitors to gather, socialize, and dine, making the hotel’s lobby primed to become Atlanta’s go-to destination.

The new spaces have an ultramodern feel that is enhanced by the use of tech-themed artwork and sculptures, as well as brightly-colored, custom-woven carpet. Vintage finds and re-sourced materials adorn the spaces in unanticipated ways. The fitness center has been redesigned with an edgy theme and state-of-the-art equipment including two Peloton bikes. In addition to a refreshed look and feel for all guest rooms, the hotel’s 15,000 square feet of meeting space are updated as well, cementing Renaissance Atlanta Midtown Hotel’s re-emergence as one of Midtown Atlanta’s most beautiful hotels.

Much like Atlanta’s characteristic street style, the hotel’s revamped guest rooms are bold, bright, and unexpected. The guest rooms and suites boast a unique touch: a trail of blue paint up the wall and onto the ceiling, affixed with the culprit’s paintbrush. Replete with views overlooking the city center, the hotel’s rooms serve as an ideal home base for traveling creatives and business travelers seeking an inspired hideaway.

“This is one of my favorite design combinations - sophisticated meets quirky,” says Alison Schulze, a principal designer of Studio 11 Design. “It’s an elevated space that invites guests and visitors to embrace a bit of whimsy.”
