Published annually since 2004, the QS rankings measure academic institutions on the basis of academic reputation, employer reputation, citations per faculty, student-to-faculty ratio, international faculty, and international students.

According to QS, evaluating academic citations is the best understood and most widely accepted measure of research strength for universities..

In individual subject rankings, Georgia Tech came in at number 14 for engineering and technology, ranking second for any public institution in the United States. Tech also had a strong showing in the statistics and operational research category, ranking seventh worldwide.
