Global architecture and design firm Perkins+Will was awarded two Best of the Best (b.o.b) Forum Design Awards last night.  The b.o.b (Best of the Best) Forum Design Awards is the highest honor that the Georgia Chapter of the International Interior Design Association (IIDA) bestows in recognition of design excellence.

Perkins+Will’s Atlanta office won two awards, each in different categories, including education and large heatlhcare. The Perkins+Will projects awarded b.o.b awards are:

b.o.b Design Award for HEAL Category -  Mayo Destination Medical Building: “Dorothy J. and Harry T. Mangurian Jr. Building

The “Mangurian Building” is a 190,000 sf outpatient facility designed to treat cancer and neurological patients in a high-tech, high-touch, patient-centric atmosphere. The building includes 4 floors of highly collaborative clinic space, with the first floor comprised of diagnostic modalities and the upper floors with distinct treatment centers. The Mangurian Building reflects Mayo’s belief that “the needs of the patient come first,” from streamlined check-in to waiting rooms that feel like well-appointed hotel lounges.

b.o.b Design Award for EDUCATE Category – University of Kentucky Gatton Student Union

The University of Kentucky’s rejuvenated and expanded Student Union is the powerful and dynamic heart of student life on the historic Lexington campus. This 360,000 SF flagship project embraces the rich legacy of UK as it embraces and revitalizes the original 1938 Student Center into state of the art student organization and meeting space, and transforms the 1928 Alumni Gym into a dynamic fitness and recreation center. At the same time it embraces the university’s future aspirations with a progressive, daylight filled architectural expression that celebrates student life at UK. The Student Center forms a connecting link between the urban nature of Downtown Lexington and the pastoral campus.

The Atlanta office of Perkins+Will is one of the firm’s largest practices, home to more than 150 design professionals. Established in 1977, our portfolio of award-winning local design work includes our LEED Platinum office at 1315 Peachtree in Midtown; Newell Brands’ new Atlanta office in Dunwoody; the nationally renowned, locally transformative Atlanta Beltline; and Interface Headquarters in Midtown Atlanta. The studio’s regional design work includes the new corporate headquarters for Bridgestone Americas in Nashville, Tennessee; the South Carolina State Ports Authority’s Site Operations Center at BMW in Spartanburg, South Carolina

The b.o.b Awards are held annually to recognize excellence in design and to promote creativity in the Georgia design community. The competition is open to any current or pending IIDA Georgia professional and student member; this year’s competition had more than 500 entries. The HEAL and Educate award winners were selected based on Judges evaluation of all submissions against 5 criteria:  problem solving, floor plan & use of space, design concept & execution and overall project cohesion.  More than 400 of Atlanta’s design industry experts attended the Awards event.
