Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Friday, May 24th, 2019

For the first time in the Atlanta Jazz Festival’s history, 10 Atlanta artists were awarded the opportunity to display and sell their work in the Festival’s Artist Market during Memorial Day Weekend, May 25 – 26, 2019. The winners of the Festival’s Artist Village Lottery were selected in a random drawing by the City of Atlanta Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs. The goal of the Artist Village Lottery project is to showcase and to increase the accessibility of up and coming Atlanta artists’ works. Winners will each receive a complimentary footprint in the Artist Market. To qualify for the lottery, artists must be a professional artist, live within the City of Atlanta limits and cannot currently be represented by a gallery.

This year’s Artist Village Lottery winners include:

LeiSha Starchia

Adam Crawford

Ashli Ognelodh

Aisha Woodard

Gilbert Young

Jay Ali

Diyah Najah

Thomas Bess, Jr.

Marlina Hullum

Jennifer Haralson

“It’s been exciting to be able to provide these fine young artists with the ability to reach thousands, increase their brand awareness and sell their art. We hope to continue the program next year,” said Camille Russell Love, Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Cultural Affairs.

The Artist Village will be adjacent to the National Black Arts Festival’s Art in the Park activation, a first time art gallery experience showcasing seven acclaimed visual artists, creating an upscale market for original artwork. The Atlanta Jazz Festival is proud to support local artists, artisans and entrepreneurs. The Artist Market is a place for festival attendees to find rare and collectible artwork. Other booths featuring eclectic and handcrafted goods will line the park’s sidewalks, along with a variety of food and drinks available for purchase.
