Morris, Manning & Martin partner Carl Westmoreland was named a 2020 Best Lawyers in America Lawyer of the Year in Atlanta for Land Use & Zoning Law. Lawyer of the Year indicates the highest overall peer-feedback for a specific practice area and geographic region. Westmoreland will be recognized in the 26th Edition of The Best Lawyers in America

“Carl is widely-recognized as a leader in Land Use & Zoning in the Metro Atlanta area,” said MMM Managing Partner Simon Malko. “This recognition indicates the strength of his reputation with his peers throughout the area.”

This is the second time Westmoreland has earned the honor. He was named Lawyer of the Year in the same category in 2010. What’s more, Best Lawyers has included him on its list for 10 years. In addition, Chambers USA: America’s Leading Lawyers for Business ranks him as a top lawyer in Real Estate from 2007 to 2018.

Westmoreland is a partner in MMM’s Real Estate, Real Estate Development & Finance, and Zoning & Land Use practices. Land use cases in Atlanta have included the Atlantic Station redevelopment, additions to the Turner Broadcasting complex, the Terminus development, redevelopment of the Buckhead Village area, and non-profit expansions, including The Westminster Schools, Pace Academy and Canterbury Court. He was also instrumental in the development of Ravinia, Concourse, Northpark Town Center and The Mall of Georgia.

He served on an Urban Land Institute committee to address affordable housing issues, and on the Peachtree Corridor Task Force, which proposed redevelopment and transit options for the city's iconic Peachtree Street. He has been a guest lecturer at Emory University and Georgia State Law Schools, the Georgia Institute of Technology, and the Institute for Continuing Legal Education. He is a past President of the Capital City Club, co-founded the Big Head Society, which raises funds for  Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta, and a past senior warden of the Cathedral of St. Philip. He also serves on the board of the Tophat Soccer Club.
