Therrell High School to Host 17th Rev. Joseph E. Lowery Lecture Series on Civic Engagement

Atlanta Public Schools will once again honor the works and legacy of Civil Rights legend Rev. Joseph E. Lowery during the 17th occurrence of the Rev. Joseph E. Lowery Lecture Series on Civic Engagement, at Therrell High School (3099 Panther Trail, SW).
 
This year’s event will feature a debate involving the Morehouse Speech and Debate Team, the University of West Georgia Debate Team and the Georgia State University Debate Team. The topic: “The United States Federal Government should provide direct compensation to all African-Americans who descended form slaves as reparations for slavery.”   In addition to experiencing a live exhibition debate, high school students from throughout the District will have the opportunity to pose thought-provoking questions to the debaters. The event will also feature remarks by Cheryl Lowery, CEO and president of the Joseph and Evelyn Lowery Institute for Justice and Human Rights, and youngest daughter of Lowery, who turned 98-years old Sunday.
