For the fourth consecutive grading period, Piedmont Atlanta Hospital has earned an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group’s Fall 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade. The designation recognizes Piedmont Atlanta’s efforts in protecting patients from harm and providing safer health care.
 
“Our ‘A’ grade is a reflection of everyone at Piedmont Atlanta’s commitment to providing high-quality, patient-centered care,” said Piedmont Atlanta’s CEO Patrick Battey, M.D., F.A.C.S. “Patient safety is our highest priority as we strive to create a one-of-a-kind experience that always puts patients first.”
 
The Leapfrog Group is a national nonprofit organization committed to improving health care quality and safety for consumers and purchasers. The Safety Grade assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections and other harms to patients in their care.

Developed under the guidance of a national Expert Panel, the Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade uses 28 measures of publicly available hospital safety data to assign grades to more than 2,600 U.S. acute-care hospitals twice per year. The Hospital Safety Grade’s methodology is peer-reviewed and fully transparent, and the results are free to the public.
 
Piedmont Atlanta Hospital is the flagship hospital for Piedmont Healthcare and is home to Piedmont Heart Institute, Piedmont Cancer and Piedmont Transplant Institute. During Piedmont’s most recent fiscal year (July 1, 2018, through June 30, 2019), Piedmont Atlanta had 288,796 outpatient encounters, 26,963 inpatient admissions and 54,248 emergency department visits.
