Generator, an Atlanta nonprofit focused on ideas about the future of cities, announced it has been selected as Google Fiber’s first Community Connection in Atlanta. Representatives from the two organizations were joined by Atlanta City Councilman Amir Farokhi and other community partners to celebrate the announcement.

As a Community Connection, Generator will be connected to Google Fiber’s gigabit network at no cost and will receive ongoing dedicated support from the superfast internet provider.

Generator, a community collaboration space, brings people together to generate ideas that shape the future of cities. Located in the historic Telephone Factory Lofts, the organization’s focus is to provide an inviting experience where people can come together to create and share ideas that will spur real and lasting change for their communities. In addition to the community collaboration space, Generator will eventually include a restaurant as well.

Google Fiber’s superfast internet will be used at Generator to animate the space with digital content and support Generator’s workshop series, which prepares the next generation of visionaries and change-makers to cultivate ideas around specific themes or focus areas. Community groups who use the space for meetings, conferences and receptions will have use Google Fiber’s internet access for conducting research, making presentations and connecting across various social media platforms.

"At Generator we believe challenges in growing cities like Atlanta need everyday people to lead the way in transforming how we live and connect with each other," said Heather Infantry Generator's Executive Director of Programs. "And we know it takes more than a single person or idea to create better outcomes — it takes a movement. Thanks to our partnership with Google Fiber, our guests and community partners will have the opportunity to come together to listen, learn, collaborate and in doing so will catalyze ideas into action."

“Creating connections is embedded in Google Fiber’s DNA, and Generator was built upon the idea of connecting people and ideas that will shape the future of our community,” said Google Fiber Spokesperson Fabiola Charles Stokes. “We’re proud to partner with Generator as our first Community Connection in Atlanta — a place Google Fiber calls home and connects thousands of customers and partners every day. We look forward to watching ideas come to life in this space and seeing how they impact Atlanta and beyond.”

“Big thinking about the future of cities is naturally at home in District 2 which is home to our city’s most ambitious and innovative action,” said Atlanta City Councilman Amir Farokhi. “I’m excited to see Google invest in Atlanta and Generator to shape the city’s next chapter.”

Generator began activating its space in 2018 and is raising funds to open a full-service restaurant in 2020 as part of its mission. Generators can attend an event or schedule a time 7 days a week to access the space and Google Fiber’s gigabit internet.
