Cristo Rey Atlanta Jesuit High School’s 6th annual President's Cup Golf Tournament held on March 29, at Capital City Club in Brookhaven raised $200,000 for student scholarships. The money raised supports the private, college-prep education of 550 high school students from underserved populations.

Since 2015, the golf tournament has raised over $950,000 to help cover the gap between the income earned from the school’s innovative Corporate Work Study program and the cost to educate the students. Cristo Rey Atlanta provides a rigorous academic curriculum along with a work study experience at over 120 companies throughout metro Atlanta where the companies pay $35,000 for a team of four students.

“The Cristo Rey model was built on a framework of social justice designed to address the issues of education, access, and opportunity for students and their families with limited financial resources,” says Camille Naughton, President of Cristo Rey Atlanta. “Funds raised from the golf tournament for student scholarships augment the income from our Corporate Work Study program and make a direct impact on the issues of race, equity, and justice.”

The golf tournament was supported by Presenting Sponsor, Georgia Natural Gas, and over 18 other companies and individuals including iVision, JLL, and N3, part of Accenture. Hennessy Lexus of Atlanta sponsored a Hole in One competition for a 2021 Lexus IS300, John Foy and Associates sponsored a Longest Drive competition, and Inspire Brands Foundation sponsored a Closest to the Hole competition.

Cristo Rey Board of Trustees member David Slovensky, Senior Vice President and General Counsel at Southern Company Gas welcomed the 118 golfers on behalf of Georgia Natural Gas, a subsidiary of Southern Company Gas.

“Georgia Natural Gas and all of our companies are committed to the success of the communities we serve, and we believe that education is the cornerstone of a thriving society. Over the last six years, our companies have sponsored more than 40 students through the Corporate Work Study partnership in Atlanta.”

Students from Cristo Rey Atlanta spoke about the importance of their education supported by the proceeds of the tournament and the impact of their work study experiences. Students noted their appreciation of the mentorships of co-workers and the value of networking made possible by working in corporate offices.
