The pandemic-triggered need to create multi-functional spaces at home has meant people are now prioritizing living space more than ever before. However, home sizes and storage capabilities vary substantially across the U.S. and some urban hubs do much better than others in catering to residents’ organization needs.

In our most recent report, we’ve analyzed 25 of the largest metropolitan areas to discover where residents can easily enjoy their homes without being overwhelmed by stuff and, on the other hand, where people are squeezed inside their homes.

If landing a spacious, airy home is a top priority, Atlanta is your best bet as the city offers its residents the best possibilities for leading an uncluttered life.

Here are the main highlights referring to ATL:

  • Atlantans enjoy over 1,000 sq. ft. of living space per head, 22% more personal space than Seattle residents, for example.
  • Looking deeper into home storage options, 85% of Atlanta single family homes come equipped with garages, and almost 40% of local housing units feature a basement.

  • 43% of apartment renters in Atlanta benefit from outside storage lockers.

  • At the other end of the spectrum, Los Angeles and San Francisco have the least personal space per capita among the biggest U.S., roughly 720 sq. ft. per capita.
