The Tucker “Back to Work” Job Fair to Engage Afghan Community & Host Mobile Vaccination Clinic

Following the “Back to Business” Tucker Job Fair in May, Tucker Summit CID (TSCID) is once again partnering with Tucker-Northlake CID, the City of Tucker, WorkSource DeKalb and Georgia Piedmont Technical College (GPTC) to host the fall Tucker “Back to Work” Job Fair on October 26 at Stone Ridge Event Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The spring job fair drew a great number of employers — some of whom had to be turned away due to COVID-19 safety restrictions — however many companies are still in need of qualified workers. The fall job fair falls on the heels of decreasing federal benefits as well as an influx of thousands evacuees from Afghanistan who have received special visas after working with the U.S. military and are rebuilding their lives in the neighboring town of Clarkston.

Organizations like New American Pathways is one of four refugee resettlement organizations participating in the job fair. Collectively, the resettlement agencies are forecasting more than 1,000 Afghans will resettle in Georgia over the next year, with the majority of them being placed in the metro Atlanta area.

“I am so proud of how our businesses in Tucker have come together to balance health and economic threats and thrive during the pandemic,” said Tucker Mayor Frank Auman. “We welcome anyone seeking work, especially those entering our community as refugees. These people, through no fault of their own, have had to flee their homes, and we are proud to assist them in getting their lives set up here in the United States. Partnering with great organizations like Tucker Summit and Tucker-Northlake CIDs, WorkSource DeKalb and Georgia Piedmont College is how we beat this pandemic and keep our economy on the right track.”

DeKalb County District 4 Commissioner Steve Bradshaw provided assistance that enabled the DeKalb County Board of Health to deploy one of its Mobile COVID-19 Vaccination Clinics to Stone Ridge Event Center to offer free Pfizer vaccine shots to anyone desiring an inoculation.

Businesses interested in participating in the job fair can register here, while applicants seeking employment can register here.
