August Lunch and Learn Onsite Presentation "Not Just from the Ground Up: Historic Preservation in 21st Century Georgia"

The Georgia Archives’ August Lunch and Learn presentation, "Not Just from the Ground Up: Historic Preservation in 21st Century Georgia,” by Stephen A. Hammock, RPA, Archaeologist and Historian, and Executive Director of the Middle Georgia Preservation Alliance, will be held onsite. The Lunch and Learn is on Friday, August 12, from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Georgia Archives, 5800 Jonesboro Road, Morrow, Ga.
The presentation will include a discussion of primary and secondary research in the digital age (also including traditional sources), as well as archaeological and cemetery research. The emphasis will be on historic preservation in Middle Georgia where Hammock has worked for almost 25 years.
Hammock has been a professional archaeologist for 25 years, and has worked on sites throughout the Southeast, New York, and Bermuda. He obtained his B.A. at New York University, and his M.A. in Maritime Archaeology and History from East Carolina University. He is completing his DPhil in Archaeology from the University of Oxford (United Kingdom) on the archaeology of the Historic Creek Indians of the Ocmulgee River Valley. His primary area of specialization over the last two decades has been the prehistoric and historic sites of the Ocmulgee, Oconee, and Flint river basins. His concern for these special places within his home region has led him to found the Middle Georgia Preservation Alliance, of which he serves as Executive Director.
