While many of us are buying gifts during this holiday season many Georgians are facing being displaced from their homes … and so are their pets. Evictions affect humans — but also lead to many family pets surrendered to area animal shelters each year. Nonprofit Paws Between Homes is using social media to get as many pets as possible into foster homes.

Serving low-income households in metro Atlanta, Paws Between Homes (a non-profit 501c3)  believes that when people get back on their feet in new housing, they should be able to do so as a complete family. That means no furry family members left behind.

Their social media has exploded as pet owners seek to avoid giving up their furry family members and to reunite dogs with owners facing homelessness.

  • Using social media tools: Fundraising, Community, Facebook Live and Events helps PBH raise money to be a safety net for families facing homelessness.
  • Immediate notifications alerting its 2.3K followers to temporary foster home needs for pets of Atlanta residents who are being evicted or otherwise losing their housing
  • Utilizing the Facebook fundraising tool, many Georgians surpass their designated goals Fundraising Link: https://www.facebook.com/PawsBetweenHomes/fundraisers
  • Sharing urgent donations needed for veterinary bills and pet supplies

Organizations like Paws Between Homes -- which generally have little budget for fundraising -- can use Facebook’s fundraising features to great effect. PBH has raised $40,000 this way to help scores of Atlanta pets. It provides all food, supplies, and veterinary care for the pets in custody.  They seek fosters who can provide space in their homes and hearts for a dog or cat for up to 90 days until the owner is able to reclaim them.

Cole Thaler shares, “We have 2.3K Facebook followers. It’s fair to say that Facebook is a fundamental part of our fundraising strategy, and we could not have accomplished the work we’ve done without the Facebook platform. It has also been a key tool for finding fosters.”
