The Georgia Insurance Information Service (GIIS), the nonprofit trade association representing companies writing a significant majority of the property and casualty insurance policies in the state, has re-launched its website – GIIS.org

With more beneficial information, statistics, insurance tips and features, and with more user-friendly navigation and an updated design, the new GIIS site offers a substantially-enhanced online resource for the state’s news media in its coverage of the P&C industry, and for consumers needing information essential for maximizing their vehicle and personal property protection.

The new GIIS.org is divided into four main sections – About GIIS; Insurance Types; Insurance Resources; and Media Information – that provide news media and consumers with a wealth of information to more effectively facilitate a solid understanding of the P&C insurance industry and how it covers personal and business property and transportation, as well as provides workers’ compensation and medical malpractice coverage.

The About GIIS section identifies the organization’s member P&C companies and associated organizations that provide vital insurance coverage and support services to the industry; explains GIIS services available to media/consumers/GIIS members; and addresses how the industry impacts the Georgia economy.

The Insurance Types section addresses the variety of coverages available as well as information on how to best guard against peril.  The Insurance Resources section provides a glossary of insurance terms; tips on how to avoid property repair scams; information on dealing with disasters and how to respond in the event of catastrophe or vehicle accident; and a guide to filing insurance claims.

The Media Information section outlines informational services available to news media, plus industry topics of interest for reporters as well as an archive of GIIS news releases.

Additional features available on the new GIIS.org include –

  • Fact sheets about GIIS and its oversight organization, the Southern Insurance Information Service (SoIIS) – which also manages the Alabama Insurance Information Service

  • Links to numerous relevant state and federal government agencies;  P&C-industry trade associations and insurance-related consumer protection agencies; and weather service organizations

  • P&C insurance company emergency contact information for addressing losses and filing claims

  • Direct access to GIIS leadership to obtain pertinent P&C insurance data and information;ask questions; secure print, broadcast and digital media attribution/actualities, etc.
