This year, the Labrador Retriever once again took Atlanta's number one spot in the American Kennel Club's 2018 ranking of the most popular AKC-recognized dog breeds in the U.S.

The Labrador Retriever was also recognized as the #1 pup in Chicago, Dallas, and Raleigh.

The Labrador Retriever secured the number one spot for yet another year in a row. The Bulldog, which held the fifth spot last year, dropped to number eight, while the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel replaced it in fifth place.

"Atlanta's favorite breeds haven't shifted much in rankings since last year," said AKC Executive Secretary Gina DiNardo.  "However, it's fascinating to see that the Cavalier King Charles Spaniel was able to paw its way into fifth place, knocking down the Bulldog a few spots."

The AKC also announced its nationwide rankings today in a press conference at the AKC Museum of the Dog in NYC. The Labrador Retriever once again breaks records! The loveable Lab remains the number one most popular breed in the United States for the 28^th year.

While the Labrador Retriever continues its reign at the top, the German Shorthaired Pointer has been quietly climbing the charts over the past decade.  This versatile, all-purpose hunter came in at number nine in 2018 – it's highest position since becoming recognized in 1930.
