Gas South, one of the leading natural gas marketers in the Southeast, announced a donation of $325,000 to charities supporting children and families throughout Georgia and North Florida.

The six non-profit partners receiving $50,000 grants include Beyond Limits Therapeutic Riding, Feed the Children, Girl Talk, North Central Florida YMCA, Ronald McDonald House FL and Second Helpings. This donation is part of Gas South’s mission to ”Be A Fuel For Good,” a commitment to give at least 5% of its annual profits to programs serving children in need.

“Gas South believes in taking care of the most vulnerable groups in our communities and is extremely proud to partner with nonprofits who work tirelessly to ensure their needs are met,” said Kevin Greiner, president and CEO of Gas South. “Each of these organizations is extremely deserving and we are excited to see the impact our gifts will make.”

The overall mission of each organization and the impact of the $50,000 donation include:

  • Beyond Limits Therapeutic Riding serves the special needs community daily by offering therapeutic horseback riding lessons that teach life and social skills. The donation will be used to purchase a new horse, fund rider scholarships and cover overhead costs, such as feed and vet bills.

  • Feed the Children is one of the largest charities based in the U.S. They provide hope and resources for those without life’s essentials. The grant will be used to help provide more than 350,000 children around the world with a hot, nourishing meal every day.

  • Girl Talk inspires middle and high school girls to be confident leaders through peer-to-peer mentoring. The $50,000 award will be used to expand the Girl Talk Ambassador program, which gives high school girls the opportunity to participate in a leadership cohort for one year.

  • North Central Florida YMCA offers programs that build a healthy spirit, mind, and body for all. The donation will be used to build a community STEAM lab for local children and teens, giving them the ability to learn life-changing skills and explore new technologies.

  • Ronald McDonald House Florida supports “Our House,” a home that provides lodging and meals to families traveling to Gainesville, Florida to seek medical care for ill children. The nonprofit is currently renovating to expand its services to more families, and Gas South’s donation will sponsor a room at their new location.

  • Second Helpings is a food rescue organization whose mission is to reduce hunger and food waste in metro Atlanta. The funds will be used to expand the Food Rescue Network, a program in which staff and volunteers rescue surplus food and distribute it to those in need.

The winners were chosen by Gas South’s nearly 400 employees through a company-wide voting process held in August. They were chosen from a group of 18 nominees and an initial applicant pool of over 250 submissions. The other 12 organizations that were not chosen for the $50,000 grant will have the opportunity to join an immersive peer learning experience through the Georgia Center for Nonprofits to help accelerate their impact. Gas South is providing a donation of $25,000 to fund the program.
