Mayor Kasim Reed announced the findings of a new Hartsfield-Jackson economic impact study today which shows that the total annual economic impact of the airport on metro Atlanta has grown from $58.22 billion in 2009 to $64.28 billion in 2013 (direct, indirect and induced). The study also examined the total number of direct, indirect and induced jobs the airport supports in the region. Direct airport-generated jobs jumped from 58,000 in 2009 to 63,300 jobs in 2013. Total airport-related jobs increased from 434,400 in 2009 to 448,700 in 2013.

“Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport is rightfully celebrated for being the world’s busiest and most efficient airport, but here in Georgia, it also has long served as the dominant economic engine for the entire metropolitan region,” said Mayor Kasim Reed. “The airport provides unparalleled access to global destinations and is the primary reason the Atlanta region is successful at attracting new businesses and new residents.”
