UGA's J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development is a sponsor of this year's International Leadership Association's 18th Global Conference, which will be held in Atlanta Nov. 2-5.

ILA is the global network for those who practice, study and teach leadership. More than 1,200 people from around the world are expected to attend this year's event. The International Leadership Association held its first global conference in Atlanta in 1999, where the organization honored U.S. Rep. John Lewis with its Legacy of Leadership Award.

Janet Rechtman, senior public associate at the Fanning Institute, is serving as the conference chair.

"I am especially grateful to UGA and J.W. Fanning Institute for Leadership Development for their support of this important conference," Rechtman said. "In collaboration with partners from throughout the university system, we have created multiple opportunities for international visitors to learn more about our region's unique experience with and perspectives on the conference theme: Dynamics of Inclusive Leadership."

The conference will feature more than 200 peer-reviewed presentations by leadership scholars and practitioners as well as multiple opportunities to network and share experiences with leadership researchers, practitioners, scholars, coaches, consultants, administrators and business and public leaders.

Key conference speakers include: Derreck Kayongo, chief executive officer of the National Center for Civil and Human Rights in Atlanta; Ajay Bramdeo, African Union ambassador to the European Union; Ron Heifetz, founding director of the Center for Public Leadership at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government; and George A. Papandreou, former prime minister of Greece (2009-2011).

During the conference ILA will present its Legacy of Leadership Award posthumously to Robert Greenleaf, founder of the Greenleaf Center for Servant Leadership in Atlanta.
