Vireo Labs, a career-focused education tech company, has announced their release of a scholarship, which is available to any high school senior residing in the state of Georgia. The C’reer Scholarship will be administered by UrbanSTEM and will be awarded to college-bound high school seniors, based on demonstrated academic achievement and an essay submission. Scholarship winners can use the money for the purchase of UrbanSTEM approved educational technology.

The scholarship is named after Vireo Labs’ recently released mobile app, C’reer, that matches students with careers and connects them with college representatives via chat. Scholarship applicants will be asked to write an essay about the use of technology in the career field suggested by the C’reer app.

All submissions will be reviewed and judged by a panel of educators and administrators at high school and college levels. The founders of Vireo Labs contributed the funds to UrbanSTEM to support this scholarship.

Each scholarship awarded will be a maximum of $1,000. The application deadline is April 1, 2017. Full requirements and the application for the C’reer Scholarship are available on the UrbanSTEM website: www.urbanstemacademy.org/scholarship.

“UrbanSTEM’s dedication to preparing students for college and career success through Computer Science workshops is making a difference in our community and in the lives of every student in these programs,” said Jose Mallabo, co-founder and chief executive officer of Vireo Labs. “We share a similar objective to provide students with resources to discover career paths and education choices that may otherwise have gone overlooked.”

Timothy King, executive director of UrbanSTEM, agrees in the value that this new educational resource brings to students, “This app will close the gap for many students attending our program. These students may be considering careers in Computer Science for the first time. The C’reer app will ensure they are on the best path available to achieve their new career goals.”
