MARTA Joins AT&T to Dial Up 750 Additional Parking Spaces

Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Monday, April 24th, 2017

As station parking lots and decks continue to fill during the morning rush hour commute, the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority joins AT&T to add 750 new parking spots at three high-traffic stations.

Since the I-85 bridge collapse, the Authority has collaborated with businesses and organizations to identify ways to expand capacity at stations throughout the system. Thanks to AT&T, the North Springs, Doraville and College Park MARTA stations now offer additional parking for commuters.

“In the wake of the I-85 bridge collapse, many of our parking lots reached capacity by 7:30 a.m. or even earlier in some instances,” said MARTA General Manager and CEO Keith T. Parker. “In addition to the 750 spaces added by AT&T, we previously opened more than 1,600 spaces.”

Additional parking attendants have been hired to manage these facilities. MARTA Police Department have an increased presence around the expanded parking lots and decks.

“We are all dealing with a new, albeit temporary, reality of the Atlanta commute,” said Bill Leahy, AT&T President – Georgia. “We hope that this additional parking space at MARTA stations will encourage local travelers to utilize our city’s convenient and time-saving public transportation options.”

MARTA strongly encourages riders to take advantage of ride sharing services, carpool or use designated Kiss/Ride lanes. MARTA buses offer free transfers at rail stations and every vehicle is equipped with a bicycle rack.

Additional updates will be announced as they become available. Customers can visit www.itsmarta.com/parking for real-time MARTA station parking capacity updates, Monday through Friday, 6-10 a.m. for ten of the busiest parking facilities.
