Staff Report From Metro Atlanta CEO

Monday, May 22nd, 2017

Sixteen metro Atlanta nonprofits participated in Gas South’s sixth annual Charity Cornhole Challenge at SweetWater 420 Fest on Sunday, April 23 at Centennial Olympic Park. The Giving Kitchen won in the championship showdown against HeadCount.

Gas South awarded a $10,000 donation to The Giving Kitchen, a nonprofit providing emergency assistance grants to metro Atlanta restaurant workers facing unanticipated hardship. The $10,000 donation will cover the living expenses of six restaurant workers who are in need due to a crisis situation, most often an injury or unexpected illness that prevents them from working.

“Year after year, the Charity Cornhole Challenge brings local nonprofits and their supporters together for some fun competition,” said Chris Coan, Gas South vice president and general manager of business and government markets. “All 16 of this year’s participating nonprofits have a profound impact within our community, and we hope the Charity Cornhole Challenge donations will continue to power positive change.”

Gas South also donated $4,000 to HeadCount for second place and $2,000 to both Georgia Jack Russell Rescue, Adoption & Sanctuary and the YMCA of Metro Atlanta for third and fourth place, respectively. A total of $18,000 in prize money was raised at Gas South’s Charity Shindig held at SweetWater Brewery last month, as well as donations generated at 420 Fest.

“We can't thank Gas South enough for the opportunity to participate with fellow nonprofits in the annual Charity Cornhole Challenge,” said Ryan Turner, board president of The Giving Kitchen. “Gas South and SweetWater Brewing have both been important supporters of our work – helping us provide peace of mind to those in the Atlanta restaurant community who are facing unexpected hardships. Our cornhole victory was thrilling, but more importantly, the support of Gas South helps us continue to provide crisis grants to those in need. We look forward to defending our championship at next year's SweetWater 420 Fest!”
