If you’re a frequent user of fast food restaurant drive-through lanes, at some point, you’ve suffered the pain of one or all of the following:

• Can’t understand the order taker on the loudspeaker or vice versa.

• Slow service or broken speakers.

• Wrong or incomplete orders.

Enter team Order.ly, a voice-driven idea designed to address order inaccuracies, slowness, and bad service. The team’s solution allows for voice-driven transactions between a drive-through customer and a fast food outlet. As designed, it allows the restaurant to make suggestions based on previous orders or inform the customer of specials or popular items and allows for payment with the customer simply saying his or her mobile number.

The five-member team behind the Order.ly concept was named the grand prize winner of the Advanced Technology Development Center’s ATDC FinTech-RetailTech Hackathon.

The competition was sponsored by Atlanta-based Worldpay US — the global payments technology and services company and creator of ATDC’s Financial Technology (FinTech) Program — and Menlo Park, California-based Google’s Cloud Platform, a suite of cloud computing services.

The Order.ly team used both Worldpay’s payments and Google’s voice technologies in building the app for the competition, which had more than 100 registered participants who broke up into nine teams.

“They showed what was possible by creating something that provides value to both the brand and the customer,” said Joe Kleinwaechter, Worldpay US’ vice president of innovation and design. “They gave the customer a faster and more convenient service, but they also allowed the brand to interact and suggest items to the customer.”

In winning the grand prize Order.ly receives:

• $7,000

• Three hot desks at Atlanta Tech Village for six months

• One legal consultation

• One marketing/public relations consultation session with Trevelino/Keller

• One accounting/financial whiteboard session with Bennett Thrasher

Order.ly also won the Best Use of Google’s APIs award, which gives the team an additional:

• $5,000 cash

• Hot desks at Strongbox West

Pup Walkr, an ATDC Accelerate portfolio startup with an online platform that lets dog owners schedule walks for their pooches, wone the Best Use of Worldpay’s APIs award and received:

• $5,000 cash

• Four hot desks at Prototype Prime for three months
