Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced that she has appointed Thomas Weyandt, Jr., as the Interim General Manager of Renew Atlanta, a position responsible for the Renew Bond and TSPLOST – an infrastructure improvement program for the City of Atlanta. Renew Atlanta, a $250 million program is the first major investment in Atlanta’s aboveground infrastructure in more than a decade.

Weyandt, a former Deputy Chief Operating Officer for the City of Atlanta, has more than 40 years of experience in economic development, policy research and regional planning industries. During his time as deputy COO, he served as the primary liaison to City of Atlanta transportation agency partners and coordinated all activities between the departments of public works, planning and community development. During his tenure with the Atlanta Regional Commission as the Director of Comprehensive Planning, Weyandt managed a 68-member staff in all physical planning activities, focusing on regional transportation, soci-economic research and a number of environmental concerns.

Weyandt is a frequent lecturer on planning for local universities, has served on the United Way of Metro Atlanta board of directors and is a graduate of Leadership Atlanta.

Weyandt earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Affairs from Georgetown University and also attended the University of Fribourg, Switzerland and Germany where he studied at the East Europe Institute.

Weyandt begin leading the Renew Atlanta team Monday, May 14.
