Staff Report From Georgia CEO

Thursday, May 3rd, 2018

TAG Education Collaborative (TAG-Ed) along with schools and companies around the state will celebrate Georgia Stem Day on May 4, 2018. Since 2013, TAG-Ed has partnered with Georgia Institutions and STEM-based companies to promote STEM Day participation and has engaged over 1 million students from school districts across the state. Currently, there are over 7,000 participants who represent classrooms, school districts, organizations and libraries who have registered through TAG Ed’s website for this years’ STEM Day.

Georgia STEM Day is a statewide opportunity for schools, students, teachers, and companies to raise awareness by celebrating and engaging in innovative, hands-on activities involving STEM. Georgia STEM Day helps students make the critical connection between the classroom and future career opportunities. This year, Learning Blade, a high quality supplemental curriculum focused on offering students real world learning experiences in STEM education, will deliver specific programming for students in grades 5 - 12 and beyond. To date there are 879 students across the state of Georgia engaging in the Learning Blade system and represent 16 Regional Education Service Agencies that are designed to improve the effectiveness of educational programs of member school systems.

“TAG-Ed is excited to see continued partnerships between education, business and community partners come to fruition on STEM Day in its sixth year, said Brian Valeyko, Board Chair of TAG Education Collaborative. As schools continue to participate, we’re inspired to see valuable partnerships being formed between schools and STEM related businesses as well as encouraged by the innovative activities being planned to engage students in STEM and empower them through exposure to potential career pathways.”

This years celebration is made possible through the support and commitment of the following partners who are hosting student awareness events in celebration of STEM: Georgia Aquarium, Fernbank, Zoo Atlanta, Jekyll Island Sea Turtle Center and Barnes & Noble.
