Action Ministries has partnered with the Anthem Foundation in its fight against hunger across the state. In 2018, the Anthem Foundation assisted in funding an expansion of the SuperPacks initiative, which provides meal packs to children over weekends.

“The Anthem Foundation is honored to support Action Ministries’ SuperPack program, which is effectively helping the state’s most vulnerable children gain access to the proper nutrition needed to maintain good health and improve overall wellbeing,” said Mel Lindsey, Amerigroup Georgia’s health plan president.

“We stand united with Action Ministries in the fight against hunger and will continue to work together to ensure progress and positive outcomes for Georgia’s communities.”

Throughout the spring semester of the 2017-2018 school year, 35,421 Superpacks were distributed to children in Chattooga, Cherokee, Clayton, DeKalb, Floyd, Fulton, Haralson, Newton, Polk, and Rockdale Counties. 6,522 of these SuperPacks were built out and distributed thanks to the generous support of the Anthem Foundation, with an additional 6,500 expected to be distributed during the remainder of 2018.

Students who receive free and reduced lunch at high-need schools are identified to participate in the SuperPacks program. Each SuperPack contains six meals as well as snacks that are easy for children to open and prepare. SuperPacks are placed in children’s backpacks on Friday afternoons before they leave school.

“Whether wrestling with sleep as the hunger pains increase or struggling in school because it’s too difficult to learn after a weekend with little to no food, too many of Georgia’s kids do not know where their next meal will come from,” says Action Ministries Vice President of Hunger Relief, Shakura Conoly.

“Our partnership with Amerigroup has brought much needed relief to hundreds of students in Georgia. Their commitment to healthy communities and programs like Action Ministries SuperPacks, has provided students access to food each weekend during the school year, allowing children to focus on what’s most important: being a kid.”

Action Ministries provides hunger relief to many of the 1 million children in Georgia who struggle with food insecurity through its SuperPack, Smart Lunch, Smart Kid and Feed the Hungry food box programs.
