The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta announced a two-year $40,000 grant to Second Helpings Atlanta, the nonprofit organization that rescues healthy, nutritious surplus food and delivers it to those in need, fighting food insecurity and food waste in metro Atlanta. The Well-being Impact Area Fund grant will go toward the general operations of the organization.

Second Helpings Atlanta, an official Food Rescue Partner of the Atlanta Community Food Bank, currently rescues more than 125,000 pounds of surplus fresh, perishable food every month. Launched in 2004, Second Helpings Atlanta’s network now includes more than 80 Food Donors, 50 Partner Agencies and over 470 volunteer drivers, and is slated to pick up more than 1.7 million pounds of healthy food in 2018.

“We are honored by the support of the Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta,” says Sheri Labovitz, President of Second Helpings Atlanta. “This two-year grant will help us expand operations while we continue to fight hunger and reduce food waste throughout the metro Atlanta area.”
