Susan G. Komen Greater Atlanta has named Cati Diamond Stone chief executive officer, the organization announced today.

Stone joined Komen Atlanta as executive director in 2013, almost three years to the day from her diagnosis with stage III breast cancer. She has led Komen Atlanta to record levels of awareness, engagement, partnership and impact. Her steadfast commitment to Komen’s Bold Goal of reducing breast cancer by 50% by 2026 has made the Greater Atlanta affiliate among the highest performing Susan G. Komen affiliates in the country.

“For more than five years, Cati has been the face of Komen Atlanta,” said Debi Jacobs, president, Komen Atlanta Board of Directors. “Her inspiring story of overcoming breast cancer and her unwavering passion for ensuring that every person has the opportunity to detect and survive this disease continues to energize the Greater Atlanta community to become involved in supporting Komen Atlanta and the 250,000 people reached by the organization each year.”

Prior to joining Komen Atlanta, Stone served as assistant general counsel for a Fortune 500 company. She became an active supporter of Susan G. Komen when she learned that a key drug that made survival from her aggressive breast cancer possible, Herceptin, was developed through funding provided by Komen.  Following her recovery, Stone made the decision to dedicate her career to breast cancer treatment, prevention and support, which led her to Komen Atlanta.

During her time with Komen Atlanta, Stone and her team have increased and diversified revenue, expanded mission programming and developed impactful and sustainable partnerships throughout the metro area. Chief among their accomplishments is their work to achieve breast health equity for African American women in Greater Atlanta, who are 45% more likely to die of breast cancer than their white counterparts.

Stone has been recognized as one of Atlanta Magazine’s “Women Making A Mark” and “Atlanta 500.” She has also been named as a WNBA Atlanta Dream “Inspiring Woman” and is a member of the Leadership Atlanta Class of 2018. She grew up in Guntersville, Alabama and earned a bachelor’s degree magna cum laude in English at the University of Southern Mississippi and a juris doctorate at the University of Alabama School of Law.
