On January 30, 2020, Georgia United Credit Union announced the appointment of Cindy Connelly as Senior Vice President, Governmental Affairs and Outreach.

Connelly will be responsible for developing and directing strategy with state and local government authorities. Additionally, she will be collaborating with industry advocates to build strategic alliances and relationships. In her new role, she will be leveraging her vast and successful experience advocating for credit unions with legislators and regulators.

“We are proud Cindy has joined the Georgia United family,” stated Debbie Smith, Georgia United Credit Union president and CEO. “Cindy is highly regarded in the industry, with a long track record of building longstanding relationships and advocating for the credit union movement. Her experience and values make her a natural fit for our organization and culture.”

Connelly has served in the credit union industry for over 30 years, beginning her career as a compliance officer for a large credit union. Most recently, Connelly served as Executive Vice President Federal Advocacy for the League of Southeastern Credit Unions (LSCU). In the immediate term, she will focus on ensuring a smooth transition from her LSCU responsibilities, with a specific focus on the upcoming CUNA Governmental Affairs Conference in Washington D.C. this February.

“I have known and worked with Cindy for over 20 years. She demonstrated leadership and professionalism throughout the consolidation process. As much as we are sad to see Cindy leave the League, we look forward to continuing our relationship with her in her new role and with Georgia United to advance the credit union movement through our continued partnership,” said LSCU CEO Patrick La Pine.
