In celebration of its 50th anniversary, the Cathedral Antiques Show announced Atlanta-based nonprofit City of Refuge has been selected as the 2021 event beneficiary. The Show, which is scheduled for January 20-24, 2021, is hosted annually by the Cathedral of St. Philip in Buckhead and attracts approximately 2,500 attendees. Next year’s event marks the second time City of Refuge will be the recipient of event proceeds.

The Cathedral Antiques Show is a festival of art, antiques and floral and interior design held to raise funds for a designated charity. It was founded in 1969 as an outreach project of the Episcopal Church Women of the Cathedral of St Philip. It has since grown into a four-day community gathering featuring a preview party, designer breakfast hosted in conjunction with ADAC, a flower festival and two days of home tours.

“We are pleased to once again name City of Refuge as our beneficiary for the 2021 Cathedral Antiques Show, representing an incredible full-circle story,” said Anne Matthews, 2021 event chair. “The work City of Refuge does for one of Atlanta’s most underserved communities, especially around the table, is so important. The sheer number of people who benefit from the organization each year is remarkable, and the Cathedral Antiques Show is proud to contribute to this remarkable charity.”

Since its inception in 1969, the Cathedral Antiques Show has raised and donated more than $5.4 million to Atlanta nonprofit organizations. For the 2021 Show, 17 local philanthropies applied for the honor of being selected as beneficiary, including City of Refuge.

In 2008, City of Refuge received funding from the Show, which was used to build the 180 Degree Kitchen: a fully operational cooking, dining, catering and culinary educational facility that prepares and serves hot, healthy meals three times a day, 365 days a year. Over the last 12 years, City of Refuge has served more than two million meals in the space.

The 180 Degree Kitchen also serves as a training center for students in the Culinary Arts vocational training program, one of the organization’s most successful and longest-running programs. As of today, nearly 440 individuals have graduated to pursue employment opportunities in the food and beverage industry. City of Refuge will use funding from the 2021 grant to make much-needed renovations to the 180 Degree Kitchen to ensure it operates at the highest level of efficiency for years to come.

“Through the generosity of the Cathedral of St. Philip, we have been able to feed thousands of people who have been deemed ‘unworthy’ by society,” said Bruce Deel, City of Refuge founder. “The funds received from the Cathedral Antiques Show will allow us to update the 180 Degree Kitchen and make sure it is equipped to continue caring for the Westside community, including our residents and students of the Workforce Innovation Hub. We are truly humbled by this gift.”

City of Refuge operates on a mission to transform lives by helping individuals and families arrest crisis, restore self-respect and break the cycle of poverty. The organization’s holistic approach focuses on four key impact areas: health and wellness, housing, vocational training and youth development. This unique method delivers a full complement of services and support to address all barriers residents and students may face on their journey to self-sufficiency. The 180 Degree Kitchen is a key component to the nonprofit’s offerings.

Tickets for the 2021 Cathedral Antiques Show will go on sale later this year while participating Antique and Art Dealers, Designers and other event details will be unveiled in the coming months.
